Network Research and Internet2
Internet2 supports network research by providing facilities for network
researchers and by participating on research proposals funded by a variety
different agencies. It also encourages and facilitates special projects
that have fundamental components related to network research.

Internet2 supports a variety of projects that are related to network research.
These projects include the next-generation network project, the MAN LAN
exchange point, the Hybrid Optical and Packet Infrastructure project (HOPI),
the Abilene Observatory, and the Network Research Facilitation Project (NRFP).

Internet2 participates on serveral grants related to network-research. They include the NSF funded Internet2 Network Research Facilities Project, the DHS
funded Distributed Security Data Project, the NSF funded UltraLight Project,
and the NSF funded 100 by 100 Project. Internet2 plays a supporting role in
