Internet2 supports network research by providing facilities for network researchers and by participating on research proposals funded by a variety different agencies. Internet2 supports a variety of projects that are related to network research. These projects include the next-generation network project, the MAN LAN exchange point, the Hybrid Optical and Packet Infrastructure project (HOPI), the Abilene Observatory, and the Network Research Facilitation Project (NRFP). Internet2 participates on serveral grants related to network-research.
